4.2 “Virgin” Wii Hacking made easy

February 12th, 2010

Recently a bunch of my friends have purchased Wiis and have been requesting me to “hack” them. I was doing this manually using TBR , NUS, and a few other tools. This method was annoying as if something was done out of order the process generally needed to be restarted from the beginning. Xzxero and others on GBATemp have come up with a more straight forward way of hacking the 4.2 system, by using a modified version of Dop-IOS, GP DOP-IOS MOD. The GP version is just as straight forward as you can get, as in now you just have to click A 10 or so times to restore back the trucha bug to an IOS.

Sad day in console hacking… Tehskeen is dead …

January 12th, 2010

From Tehskeen.com ;

Dear Skeeners,

Due to circumstances out of my control I have no choice, but to inform you of the bad news. TehSkeen is lost. Therefore, due to internal and external reasons I am leaving the “scene”. It.s been a hell of a ride and five years is a long time to work on something you enjoy to have it just vanish. TehSkeen had a vision and I hope someday someone else will follow this vision. I.m not giving up just moving on. I hope you all can understand this and if you can’t I’m sorry. There are other sites out there with similar morals and content that you can be a part of. Farewell.

New Site Forum January 1st

December 16th, 2009

On January 1st I’m going to open up a forum for this site.
The point of the forum will be much like this site, to post on Wii hardware / modding related issues and question, personal projects and of course hardware news, reviews and walkthroughs. I really like to see it more center around hardware projects and the exchange of modding ideas, kinda like arcadecontrols.com is for arcade cabinets.
As of right now I’m slowly moving copying the posts over to the forum so more in-depth comments can be made on the posts and tweaking the security, settings and other features of the forum. I don’t imagine the forum will get that much traffic, but sometimes smaller is better… less bullshit to read through to get to the answer.
Also at first I’ll be manually approving registration requests until I know the forum is up and running smoothly and I have another Mod or two to watch posts. Really the only rules of the forum will be no acting like an asshole and no linking to pirated commercial ISOs and roms, so it should be an easy job for the moderators.

*Off Topic* Hacking forum for the Samsung Moment *Off Topic* *Update*

December 8th, 2009

The Samsung Moment is the one of the new Android phones from sprint. Right now the amount of hackers for this phone are fairly small, due to the popularity of the HTC Android phones (HTC’s early entry into Android market and the huge hacker community of xda-developers.com). What I think the Samsung Moment has an edge in future hack ability is that it’s supporting a 800mhz processor (Almost all other Android phones are 528MHz), it’s slide out keyboard, and it’s very base version of Android 1.5. Recently root access and the ability to re-flash the factory default this phone has been achieved, which bring me to the point of the post. Samsung Moment Forum is starting to become the focal point for all things hacking / apps / ect for the Moment and I’d like to potentially push anyone interested in this phone and hacking it over there, as the more people who are working together on it the more open this great phone because.
*Update* Custom created kernel been created and flashed now. Link

Creating a Multi Game GameCube ISO / DVD

December 8th, 2009

Do to the small size of GameCube games, it’s possible to create a multi-game DVD for use on the Wii. This is convent if you have a lot of GameCube games and don’t want the hassle of switching games. GameCube MultiGame ISO Creator by Patman (which uses GCOS Multigame from emu-kidid) will do just that.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii Copy Protection Info and Crack *Update 3 Everything fix*

November 10th, 2009

The New Super Mario Brothers Wii contains a new copy protection that hasn’t been seen as of yet in the Wii. This copy protection not only protects against USB loaders and Disc launchers, but it also effects modchips, which is a first. As of right now no modchips will read a 1:1 copy of NSMB, a hex patch must be applied to the main.dol. The hex edit fix is actually pretty interesting because it’s based on an old PC game cracker’s trick. Also of interest it’s the first Wii game to my knowledge that contains a  System menu update of 4.0 or higher (it’s 4.1). For the 3.2 users, don’t worry it works on 3.2.
